For Barbara Stokes, Life Is About Helping Others

As the Chief Executive Officer of Green Structure Homes (GSH) of Alabama, Barbara Stokes has seen what devastation a natural disaster can have on a community. Besides homes and businesses being flooded and/or destroyed, there are huge ramifications that are felt even outside the area immediately affected. Children’s lives get disrupted, people can lose jobs, and their lives can be altered forever. The passions that Ms. Stokes has for helping others goes beyond just a job. She has made it her life’s work to help others rebuild their lives in the wake of natural disasters. Follow Barbara Stokes on

Barbara successfully ran her own business, Pisces Corporation, early in her adult life, where she gained experience leading a team. She later worked as an administrative assistant at the Muscular Dystrophy Association, helping search for a cure for the debilitating disease. She still yearned to learn, so she attended Mercy University in Macon, Georgia and received a degree in Biomedical Engineering and Physics in 2001. At Mercer, he interest in biomedical engineering led her to found and be the President of the Biomedical Engineering Club. She even published a paper in college that studied the causes and effects of earthquakes in central Georgia, something that is near to her heart. After graduating from Mercer, Barbara started GSH. Along the way, Barbara has dedicated many hours in volunteer work in her community.



Barbara and her husband Scott run GSH of Alabama out of their Huntsville office as CEO and COO, respectively. They are fully dedicated to helping others in need, not chasing the almighty dollar. Barbara has used her experience in government contracting to help GSH earn many government contracts to provide temporary emergency shelter for those displaced by tornados, hurricanes, and other natural disasters. She believes in the mission that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is tasked with and seeing how her company helps people in need is what satisfies her.

It should be rather apparent that given Barbara Stokes’ ability, drive, experience, and education that she could do just about anything in life and be successful. The fact that she has chosen to dedicated her life to helping those in her community that are in need speaks to her character. She is avid volunteer in the community of Huntsville, a wife, a mother of three, and spends her days and nights helping others. For Barbara, that is what life is all about.
