The Wave Of The Dog Food Future

The manufacturer’s at Freshpet, Inc. take their production quality values very seriously. To the point they are willing to taste test their own products. Of course, using only fresh ingredients, skipping the preservatives, and offering such delicious sounding meals as Chunky Chicken and Turkey, can tempt anybody to raid Fido’s shelf. Freshpet Inc. is one of the main innovators in a $23.7 billion pet food market that is reaching out to the growing consciousness of healthy consumers. In fact they are currently the only company offering industrial refrigerated pet food on the market. They even have their own branded refrigerated display cases.

New innovations in dog food production, including the eat-like-your-owner strategy, have caused a surge in the pet food market of 45 percent. That’s 10.5 billion in the U.S. since 2009, now more than half the market. The big brand dog food companies are not lazing around banking on tradition either. Companies such as Purina, which recently bought Merrick Pet Care, have introduced the Back Country Line, with Game Bird and Pacific Catch varieties. They have also expanded into specialty brands for your senior citizen pets, such as Bright Minds.

Another product Purinastore offers is Beneful. In the current pet food market they offer Wet foods, dry foods, and even treats for dogs. As of 2012 it was listed as the fourth most popular brand of pet food with more than 1.5 billion in annual revenues. Beneful hit the market in 2001, introducing a beef stew like food that was nutritious for our four legged friends. Their Healthy Harvest line, introduced to the market in 2005, featured soy, rather than meat, as its main ingredient.

The Purina company spokesperson was quoted as saying that the word Beneful means “full of goodness”. With all natural flavors and ingredients, including beef, chicken, salmon, carrots, tomatoes and rice, that sounds pretty Beneful too me.
